  • lwn.net - Linux weekly news. This is one of the best sources for information about Linux events. They also have everything all together in a useful big page.
  • Freshmeat - An index of software projects. You can find any Linux application. Freshmeat has both open source and commercial software in its database.
  • openoffice.org - Office package for Linux, based on StarOffice, originally by Sun Microsystems. This is a free alternative to commercial word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages, which works on various operating systems, including Linux.
  • User friendly - Comic strip with Linux humour (Linux can be funny sometimes.)
  • slashdot.org - What have geeks been saying in the last 24 hours. That's H-T-T-P colon slash slash slash dot dot org.

Miscellaneous

  • Netcraft's web server survey makes fascinating reading, especially the part about who controls 10% of IIS e-commerce sites. You can also see uptime statistics for www.ledge.co.za. These people can tell you what web server and operating system most people are using. The uptime graph for www.microsoft.com shows that they reboot their servers quite often (admittedly, we might also reboot quite often if faced with the same load.)
