Server installation We will set up a Linux server according to your specifications
and configure standard software packages for a fixed prices. Alternatively, we will do the same service
for no initial fee, subject to a one year support contract. Please contact us for a quote on this service
- Installation of SuSE Linux or another Linux distribution on
your hardware by a Leading Edge Business Solutions technician.
This includes configuration of your standard network hardware,
network settings and basic security.
- Configuration of standard packages according to your
requirements. For example, if your system is a mail server, we
will configure SMTP and POP3 services. If your system is a web
server, we will install the web server and the scripting backends
and database support your web pages require.
- Telephonic and remote support for 1 month from the date of
installation. This telephonic support is capped at 3 hours per
month, excluding the first week after installation, where no
limitation applies. For a one year agreement, support is on a
per month basis and the same limits apply.
The following are not included in this package. If you need us
to do one of these as part of the installation you may request it
and we will charge for it at our standard rates.
- Installation and configuration of non-standard packages is
not included in this offer. Non-standard packages are those
which are not included in the Linux distribution, which require
recompiling from source code, or installation of custom
scripting. Our own software is however
counted as "standard" packages if you wish to include it in the
installation.
- After-installation changes to the system - addition and
removal of services, hardware reconfiguration of relocation.
- For a server which requires client configuration (e.g. mail
server, fax server), we will configure only one client
workstation. The configuration of other workstations is the
responsibility of the client.
- Installation on non-IA32 hardware (32 bit Intel
architecture). Please contact us for a quotation if you wish to
install a Linux server on a MIPS, PowerPC, Sparc, IA64, AMD64, IBM S/390 or
another non-IA32 architectures.

Server applications
Here are some examples of the applications you can assign to your
Linux server.
- Mail server -
Manage your incoming and outgoing mail for your entire office.
Linux supports SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4, and can interface with your
existing desktop machines. Anti-virus and anti-spam solutions
can be plugged in at the server level.
- VPN server -
A Virtual Private Network allows you to link branches and
computers over an insecure public network such as the Internet.
OpenVPN provides an SSL encrypted tunnel using UDP or TCP, and
can be used where IPSec cannot, such as NAT to NAT environments.
OpenVPN is available for both Linux and Windows, but we install only the Linux
server side.
- Proxy server -
The squid proxy server acts as single point of access to the
internet for web browsing. Squid can use username and password
based, or IP based authentication. Squid allows you to limit the
web access to certain sites only, and impose time based
restrictions.
- File server -
Samba is the file sharing and print server which allows Linux to
act as the file server for your organisation, without increases
in costs as you grow. Samba can be configured to supply a simple
back-up solution and to act as a NT domain logon server (PDC).
- Linux firewall -
A firewall allows you to regulate the connections which can be
made to and from your network. Linux's firewalling capabilities
include stateful packet filtering.
We can configure shared internet access for your corporate
network via leased line, ADSL, dial-up ISDN or an analogue modem
attached to the server.
-
Linux terminal server -
Terminal servers allow you to run desktop applications on a
central server. This allows you to use relatively cheap PC's on
your desktop, and sets you free from the hardware upgrade
treadmill.
Apart from specific applications, you can mix and match, and put
a number of diverse functions on a single Linux machine.
