Workstation installation
The Leading Edge Linux Workstation installation service will get you up and running with Linux on the desktop.

We can install and configure the software at your premises or ours. You can choose between a basic configuration, and a number of additional services.

Carry-in workstation installation Installation of a Basic Linux Desktop system at our premises by a Leading Edge technician. You drop off the machine at our offices and collect it the following day. R540.00
Additional items Each additional item not included in the basic configuration is charged for separately. R180.00

The following items are included in the basic installation and configuration:

  • Default desktop installation
  • Network card TCP/IP (need IP address, netmask, default gateway, and DNS settings)
  • Configure to use HTTP proxy server
  • 1 user account

For each of these additional items that is required, the additional item cost applies.

  • Introductory end-user training (20 minutes)
  • Configure POP3 or IMAP e-mail client
  • Set up external modem connection to ISP
  • Set up supported local or remote printer
  • Movie/DVD player
  • TV Card configuration
  • Fax client, answering machine
  • LDAP, YP or NT domain client
  • Firewall
  • Other peripherals
  • Software RAID
  • Obtaining information not provided in writing which is required for configuration of the workstation (including, user names, passwords, server names, IP addresses, choice of protocols)

The following are not part of the workstation configuration service. You may request a quotation for these:

  • Server modifications
  • Hardware installation
  • Network cabling
  • Configuration of unrelated devices (e.g. servers, routers, wireless LAN, hubs)
  • Anti-spam measures and anti-virus for Windows
  • Unsupported hardware (including hardware requiring custom kernel modules)
  • Data migration
  • Backup solution
  • Hardware RAID
  • Packaged media and manuals (standard prices apply)
