Short Skills Course Options in Finance

Leading Training has a few options to consider.  This article will take you through these.

The Finance for Non-Financial Managers Course – is a 3-day, non-accredited, fast-paced course for managers who already have a degree or professional qualification, and who need to develop and strengthen their skills.

The objectives of this course are:

  • to read basic financial statements
  • assess the financial performance and health of an organisation
  • enhance their decision-making skills by integrating financial management concepts into their thinking
  • understand the budgeting process and forecasting techniques

This course does have a strong practical element, with real-life case studies to look through with calculations to do, but there are no formal assessments marked externally.  As such a Certificate of Attendance is issued after completing the course and participating in all activities.  This can be downloaded from our website after the course.

This course can be done in class or via webinar with a live instructor. All the exercises are loaded on an LMS for easy access.  We require a group of 8 to schedule a course.

The Manage Finances SAQA US252040 Course is an accredited course that covers much of the above, but also has formal assessments and a portfolio of evidence that needs to be completed, assessed externally, and the results verified by the Services SETA, before a Certificate of Competence is issued.  Learners are verified externally that they have earned 8 credits at NQF level 5 in Managing the Finance of a Unit.  These credits are part of the Generic Management Qualification ID 59201.  Learners can continue to accumulate credits by completing other short skills courses and build towards earning the full qualification.  This course can be done online with assessments uploaded to our LMS, or on paper.

We offer this accredited course in 2 durations:

A 3-day version of the accredited course, where formative assessments are completed in class and learners are given a month to complete their summative assessments on their own and upload their final Portfolio of Evidence for marking.  This option is recommended for strong candidates with good computer skills, a laptop or desktop, and a stable internet connection.

We also have a 5-day version where all formative and summative assessments are completed in class.  We strongly recommend that learners with weak computer skills, or no access to stable internet or a laptop, or learners in remote areas, take the 5-day option. This option is normally run for a group oof between 8 to 20 learners, in a classroom setting.

After learners are assessed as competent, their results are uploaded to the Services SETA LMIS and await verification of results.  This can take up to 6 months depending on SETA backlogs.  Once verified, your Certificate of Competence can be downloaded from our website.

We have an additional accredited Short Course in our Finance offerings, Analyse Financial Information at NQF level 5 for 6 credits.

The outcomes for this course are:

  • Using mathematical techniques to collect and organise data
  • Applying mathematical analysis to calculate and represent financial and economic data
  • Applying mathematical analysis to indicate economic relationships

This course would suit learners who need to analyse financial information at a deeper level. This course can be done in 2-days followed by the 3-day Manage Finances SAQA US252040 course, so that a total of 14 credits are earned.  However, all summative assessments would need to be done after class. This course is needed if one aims to complete the full qualification in Generic Management.
